Students seeking the Principal endorsement, you must have a master鈥檚 degree in education and three or more years of PK-12 teaching experience as a licensed educator. Candidates who have not already earned a master鈥檚 degree may complete the endorsement requirements as part of our M.Ed. program with a concentration in School Leadership. Those who have earned a master鈥檚 degree may complete the endorsement requirements as part of our post-master鈥檚 Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) program with a concentration in School Leadership. Candidates who have not already earned a master鈥檚 degree may complete the endorsement requirements as part of our M.Ed. program with a concentration in School Leadership. Students seeking the Director of Curriculum endorsement, must have a master鈥檚 degree in education and three or more years of PK-12 teaching experience as a licensed educator. Candidates who have not already earned a master鈥檚 degree may complete the endorsement requirements as part of our M.Ed. program with a concentration in School Leadership. Those who have earned a master鈥檚 degree may complete the endorsement requirements as part of our post-master鈥檚 Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) program with a concentration in School Leadership. The intent of this endorsement is to promote and support curriculum coordination at the district and/or supervisory union level. Educators who hold this endorsement are authorized by the Vermont Agency of Education to coordinate the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning activities of a school district or supervisory union. To be recommended for the endorsement, candidates will take eight courses (28 credits) at Saint Michael鈥檚. Licensed teachers interested in earning an additional endorsement as a Special Educator may do so in-person through one of the following paths:

• (MAT) program 鈥� 30 credits
• (M.Ed.) program with a concentration in Special Education 鈥� 36 credits
• (CAGS) post-master鈥檚 program with a concentration in Special Education for those who already hold a master鈥檚 degree 聽鈥� 30 credits.

To be recommended for the endorsement, candidates will successfully complete nine courses (28 credits), including the practicum, which can be job-embedded. All courses are offered in the evening.

Note: With approval of the advisor, students may transfer up to nine graduate credits from another accredited institution for comparable coursework in which a grade of 鈥淏鈥� (3.0) or higher was earned.

Teachers interested in earning an additional endorsement as a Specialized Literacy Professional may do so through the M.Ed. program with a concentration in Literacy, or the post-master鈥檚 Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) program with a concentration in Literacy. To be recommended for the endorsement, candidates must have three years of teaching experience and hold a master鈥檚 degree. The master鈥檚 degree can be completed as part of this program. The endorsement requires 21 credits in literacy-related coursework including , and 6 credits in curriculum and teacher development. Dozens of languages other than English are now spoken in the homes of many of Vermont鈥檚 school children. Multilingual Learner teachers provide the bridge for learning for these students.

Licensed teachers interested in earning an additional endorsement in teaching multilingual learners, may do so through the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program, the Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) program (36 credits), or as a stand-alone Certificate in Teaching Multilingual Learners program (18 credits). All three programs prepare successful candidates to teach multilingual learners in Vermont public schools in grades PK-12. To be eligible for the recommendation from Saint Michael鈥檚 College for the additional endorsement, candidates must be enrolled in one of these three programs.
