Edward J. O鈥橩eefe, Jr., age 76, of Taunton, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 12, 2025. He was the husband of Michelle (Scanlon) O鈥橩eefe. They were married for 35 years.
Ed was born in Cambridge, MA in 1949聽to the late Edward J. O鈥橩eefe, Sr. and Therese (Foley) O鈥橩eefe. Raised in Braintree, he attended Boston College High School and St Michael鈥檚 College in Vermont where he earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree. He joined Casey & Hayes Movers, South Boston, where he worked for many years as a dispatcher until he retired as operations manager.
Eddie was a warm-hearted and good-natured man, known for his quick wit and ability to bring a smile to anyone鈥檚 face. Whether among friends, family, or strangers, he always had a clever remark or a humorous observation that lifted spirits and brightened conversations. Even during his final days at Morton Hospital, Ed鈥檚 charm and humor never wavered. The nurses and doctors who cared for him spoke fondly of his kind demeanor and sharp sense of humor, often saying he was a joy to care for. His light-hearted presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met, right to the very end.
An active member of the Liberty Christian Center in Taunton, Ed was dedicated to his faith. He believed that his ability to recover from alcoholism was the direct result of his prayers to be given the strength to change. He was a long-time member of AA and would have celebrated 36 years of sobriety in October. Eddie helped countless members of AA to get and maintain sobriety and regularly testified at meetings. Recently, he was honored to be able to share with his faith community the part God played in the most pivotal moment of his life.
In addition to his wife Michelle, he leaves a brother, David (Stephanie) O鈥橩eefe of Narragansett, RI; and three sisters, Maureen O鈥橩eefe of South Boston, Rosemary (Richard) Chretien of South Weymouth, and Marti (Ron) O鈥橩eefe McKenna of Norwood. He is also survived by his children Matthew O鈥橩eefe (Bruna) of Kingston, Elizabeth Macaione (Kevin) of Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, and Laura Lamar (Kurt) of Pembroke and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
