Daniel J. Sullivan, Esquire, of Westfield, MA passed peacefully on Sunday, September 28, at the age of 94. Born in Holyoke on March 9, 1931, to Mary Rose (Curley) and Joseph Stephen Sullivan, Dan was the youngest of six children and cherished being the “baby of the family.”Dan was a proud graduate of Holyoke High School, class of 1949, and attended his 75th reunion last fall. He graduated from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT in 1955, where he was a member of ROTC and became a proud Golden Knight. After college, Dan served his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator, attaining the rank of Captain.Dan married the love of his life, Grace (Sharpe) Sullivan, in 1959 after meeting at Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, Inc., where he worked for 35 years. Determined and hardworking, he was first employed as a laborer and ultimately served as the company’s corporate attorney after attending night classes at Western New England College Law School and graduating in 1971.Dan loved tending to his garden, watching the birds at his feeder, and pointing out constellations in the night sky. He found pleasure in golfing, skiing, traveling, and singing Irish songs-always with a Guinness in hand and a twinkle in his eye. He was a passionate fan of the Red Sox, the Patriots, and Notre Dame sports, never missing a chance to cheer them on.
A man of deep faith, Dan was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Westfield, MA for 65 years. His faith, his family, and his country were the guiding lights of his long and meaningful life. He is survived by four children: Kathleen (Jim) Moltenbrey of East Otis, MA; Sean (Whitney) Sullivan of Gray, ME; Terrence Sullivan of Norfolk, MA; Mary Ellen Stutz of Southampton, MA. He was a proud “PopPop” to 10 grandchildren: Megan and Daniel “DJ” Moltenbrey; Reilly, Liam (Majah), Rory (Paige) Sullivan; Cory (Emily) Sullivan, Brittany (Patrick) Holmes; Courtney (Jeff) Spratt, Chad (Jordyn) Stutz, Chase (Kaleigh) Stutz. He was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren: Orla, Lennon, Declan, Donneghan, Maisy, Roman, Parker, Kiernan, and Levi, as well as several nieces and nephews. His support dog, Harper, misses him! He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and his beloved son, Daniel “Danny” Sullivan, who he now rejoins in heaven. Dan will forever be remembered for his kind heart, infectious laugh, Irish spirit, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends.
